Perimenopause Explained

[/mk_fancy_title]

This is the long, drawn out period of time when our body’s reproductive system begins to slow until we reach menopause. And, lasting up to a staggering ten – yes, that’s right TEN – years before our periods do stop, these progressive hormonal changes can affect our mood – and our skin. With the NHS citing that menopause can occur from the age of 45 (with some women experiencing it even earlier), it means many of us could be experiencing perimenopause without realizing.

So what are these symptoms? As well as fatigue, irregular periods, mood swings, aching joints and muscles, dry grey-looking skin and an acceleration of the ageing process. However, we can ease the physical and mental symptoms by getting beauty prepared.

Skin regeneration and repair slows down considerably so it’s key to switch up your skincare regime to ward off the ageing process. There’s a significant loss of both collagen and hyaluronic acid levels and skin loses its glow and elasticity. We are also more prone to redness as skin becomes drier and more irritated.

Invest in an oral collagen supplement such as the multi-award winning Skinade, a delicious peach and mangosteen flavoured collagen drink to deliver micronutrients as well as rebuild the collagen matrix.

Then there’s the Omnilux LED Facial. This anti-ageing light therapy facial uses advanced technology to stimulate the body’s own natural processes to counteract the effects of ageing. A completely natural method of light-only skin rejuvenation, it’s a fantastic treatment to boost dull, tired looking skin and Light therapy is also proven to help boost moods.

And don’t underestimate the power of a good therapeutic massage can have on our body and mind. As well as relaxing and revitalising, massage helps reduce anxiety, headaches and join paint, it stimulates the lymph system, increasing circulation and those all-important endorphins.
