body-brushesIn our previous blog post, we explained why women suffer from cellulite and how to combat it, and we briefly touched on the phenomenon of body brushing.

At Zen Lifestyle, our combination of topical and internal treatments are guaranteed to help reduce and improve the appearance of cellulite, however if we could only choose one body-improving trick to use at home, then it would have to be body brushing.

For those who haven’t yet heard of body brushing, it improves sluggish circulation, therefore helping to drain toxins, and we must admit, is a little bit of a workout in itself!

A number of models use the technique to help reduce that dimpled cellulite appearance and keep their skin looking and feeling nice and smooth – and you can do so too.

How do you ‘body brush’?

So, how do you ‘body brush’? Firstly, most experts would recommend, and we would agree, that you should body brush once a day, preferably before you take a shower or bath first thing in the morning.

Regardless of when you do it though, whether you’re waiting for the shower to heat up, the bath to run, or your face mask to work, you just need to spend a few minutes doing it every day – that’s all!

All you need to do is start your brush strokes from the soles of your feet and work all the way up your body (except your face or any areas of sensitive or delicate areas of skin).

Each stroke should be overlapped about three times before moving upwards to the next section, and make sure your strokes are short, smooth, and importantly, always towards the heart.

If you have specific areas of concern, then you can do a few extra strokes on those bits just to get the circulation stimulated that little bit more.

For best results, we would recommend following this procedure with the Murad Firm and Tone Serum and Murad Firming Body Cream.

The best thing about body brushing is that, apart from the initial outlay (a brush!), it’s totally free. We recommend the Elemis Skin Brush, which you can find in our Bruntsfield Salon, Teviot Salon, and Hanover Street Salon for just £20.

The Elemis Skin Brush is made of high quality cactus bristles that assist the internal system by kick-starting the circulation and sweeping away dead skin cells, and best of all, it lasts for years!
