Here at Zen it’s little surprise we are BIG fans of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) permanent hair removal. It is safe, effective and clinically proven. We have literally hundreds of clients over the years who have been so delighted with the results that they have returned for additional areas to be treated. But what do our clients think? Here Grace Cooper, a 34 year old brand manager and an IPL  client at the Bruntsfield salon, reveals why she’s never looked back.

What made you decide to opt for IPL and what form of hair removal were you using before?

Prior to IPL hair removal, I had always shaved – I waxed my lower legs once and couldn’t stand the pain. I would occasionally get my bikini line waxed before holiday as part of a home routine I did myself. By the time I was in my late 20s, I was so sick of shaving under my arms every day and couldn’t bare the pain of waxing. Then, I looked into laser hair removal and IPL. I found that Zen offered the latest technology in permanent hair removal which was virtually pain free and completely safe. The thought of no more shaving and having hair-free arms and bikini was the turning point.

What area did you choose and why?

I opted for my under arms and bikini line. Shaving under my arms every day was frustrating and you can never get the smooth effect on your skin that looks like it has never been shaved before. Bikini line was also a no brainer as it just made shower time that little bit easier and I no longer had to put up with bumps and ingrown hairs – instead I could have a smooth result every day. If you swim a lot or even on a sun holiday personal maintenance is a lot easier.

How was the process and how long did it take for you to be permanently hair-free?

For both bikini and under arms I needed 6 sessions on each area, although I understand that some people may need more. Between holidays I managed it over about 9 months, as you need about 4 weeks between treatments. The staff are so familiar with IPL they were very confident about the results and were well trained when doing the treatment. Depending on your hair and where the hair is it can feel sensitive – a bit like an elastic band on the sore bits which tend to be where you have thicker, darker hair. Having said that, I couldn’t bare the pain of waxing but could manage to sit through 6 IPL sessions, so it was absolutely fine.

Was it worth it?

Absolutely worth it! I have never looked back and recommend it to all my friends. I am hoping to get my legs done next!

Do you wish you’d done it sooner?

I always tell everyone, just do it! The results are just excellent and it makes your life so much easier when it comes to personal maintenance. If you pay for waxing then in the long run IPL is much cheaper.

What would you say to other people considering it?

Anyone considering should really just go along for a consultation. The therapists are very knowledgable and understanding and explain the process really well. You can also have a wee test shot on the machine so you get an idea what it feels like. The results are fantastic and you’ll wish you had done it sooner. It is so lovely not having that stubble and fuzz accumulating in between shaves,  I can’t believe I put up with it for so long.
