Thermage Skin Tightening

Thermage is the only non-invasive procedure that helps tighten and contour your skin in a single treatment—with no surgery, no injections, and little to no downtime.

A new method to tighten the skin and smooth wrinkles around the eyes called the Thermage procedure is now available at Zen Lifestyle's Edinburgh laser clinic. For the first time, women and men seeking a more youthful appearance have the option of an aesthetic procedure that does not require invasive surgery, chemicals, needles or lasers.

Thermage is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment that delivers tighter skin, renewed facial contours and healthier collagen. (Collagen is the building block that provides structure to your skin.) Zen Lifestyle's Edinburgh clinic is one of only two establishments outside of London in the U.K where the Thermage procedure is available. This treatment of offered by Dr Rita Rakus, the UK's foremost cosmetic practitioner. Dr Rakus runs the world's 5th largest Thermage clinic from her Knightstbridge cosmetic centre and is regarded as one of the world's leading experts in this Thermage.

Thermage uses the latest radiofrequency technology to create a precisely controlled zone of heating in the dermis and the underlying tissue. At the same time the epidermis is protected with continual cooling. The heating of the collagen initiates a natural biological reaction that causes the collagen to contract and thicken. This process creates  tighter, smoother looking skin.

Skin is made up of two layers, the visible outer layer called the epidermis, and a deeper layer called the dermis. The main structural component of the dermis is a protein called collagen, which provides the skin with its strength. As we age our body produces less collagen and the skin loses it's natural elasticity, resulting in wrinkles and sagging of the skin. The Thermage procedure causes the collagen in the dermal layers of the skin and its underlying tissue to tighten, thereby reducing skin laxity and wrinkles and renewing facial contours.

In addition, the body also initiates a second response to heating within the dermis and underlying tissue. This response is part of the body's natural wound-healing response and initiates new collagen creation providing long-term tightening of the skin. The combination of these two processes, provide immediate skin tightening and long-term tightening effects.

During a typical treatment, clients experience a brief, deep heating sensation as the energy is delivered to the skin and underlying tissue. The heating sensation is the patient's indication that the collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. The medical practitioner precisely controls the amount of energy delivered to produce optimum results. Prior to treatment, an anaesthetic cream may be applied to enhance your comfort whilst undergoing the procedure.

Unlike many available cosmetic procedures requiring a series of sessions, a single Thermage treatment can produced results in the majority of patients. Published medical studies conducted by Thermage show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months following a single treatment session. However, many patients have reported seeing an earlier response.
