Living the Highlife at Hanover
Our Hanover Street salon has had some famous faces stop by recently during the festival, in particular the wonderful Eddie Izzard & the great Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.
Ellie had the pleasure of doing Eddie Izzards nails, and in a very flamboyant style – Bright red with pointy shaped nails! Everyone was super excited to see him, especially the manager Carrie who is a big fan. Eddie was making a suprise appearance in the Edinburgh Fringe, headlining a one-off show with support from German stand-up Michael Mittermeier and South African stand-up Trevor Noah.
BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills came in for some relaxation. A 60 minute massage from our therapist Dawn prepared him for his return to the Edinburgh
Fringe for a fourth year running. He was presenting his show live from a specially constructed BBC studio in the city centre. Celebrity guests and festival performers dropped by the show each day to give listeners a flavour of what the festival has to offer.
Why not stop by our Hanover Street salon for a slice of the highlife? With a perfect central location it’s the best way to spend your time in the city. (0131 2257009)
An honest review from a “self-confessed product junkie”
Cheryl is a client of ours and has been so pleased with the Murad products that she wanted to share her experience with us.
My Favourite Murad Products
The following Murad products were recommended to me as my skin had been so dehyrated and no combination of products was giving me any relief from dry uneven skin. What is fabulous is that they are stand alone products which do not need to be combined with any boosters to be efficient. They smell wonderful, the packaging looks great and best of all, the products leave your skin feeling nourished and glowing.
Murad Hydro-dynamic Ultimate Moisture - this is without a doubt one of the best products I have tried in years. I am a self-confessed product junkie having tried everything from La Prairie to Aveda and every brand in between, this product is my current favourite. My skin has been extremely dehydrated and having used this for the last month or so, I am receiving compliments galore on my radiant complexion. It is deeply hydrating and offers long term relief from dry skin yet is gentle enough for my sensitive skin. My skin feels nourished and refreshed and I love it. Can’t recommend this highly enough.
Murad Skin Perfecting Primer (Dewy) - this is my current second favourite product which I shall recommend to anyone who will listen. It leaves your skin with a radiant glow and in the process evens out skin texture and tone. It gives your skin a youthful fresh look. Wonderful!
Refreshing cleanser - this delightful cleanser smells and feels amazing! It cleanses without drying your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It smells so good morning and night!
AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser - this cleanser polishes and smoothes your skin and has brightened up my complexion.

Introducing Murad White Brilliance
Dr Murad felt like something was missing in the skincare market and that was a range that would help:
- Tighten pores
- Lighten and reduce age spots and pigmentation
- Anti aging
- Hydrating
- Brighten and lightning to the skin

Wouldn’t it be great if there was one range we could use to reduce and improve all of these common skin concern’s at home? Well now there is with the Murad white brilliance range, and it’s proved very popular with our clients. It is a great range to use if you have Asian skin as they have a higher percentage of melanin. It will slow down the production of melanin so that age spots will be lightened and skin will appear brighter. It is also great to use if you have pigmentation maybe caused by medication or hereditary, as it contains advanced vitamin C which attracts the dark spots. It also contains lentil seed extract clinically proven to reduce pore size by 60%!
The range consists of three products, a gentle face cleanser which contains fruit enzymes, a step two corrector which you would use morning and night under a moisturiser for best
results. Also a hydrating moisturiser which contains pa+++ spf30 to give you the highest protection from not only sun and cancer rays but also UVA which is from artificial damagers. All three products smell amazing and are very light when applied to the skin. For best results use alongside in salon treatments like our Murad Aha peel and Vitamin C facials.

Can Massage Therapy help cancer patients?
Cancer is a diagnosis that truly no one is ever neither prepared nor excited to hear. Amidst all the treatment that one must go through to get on the road to recovery, the process can be daunting and extensive. However,
studies have shown that a natural treatment, massage therapy, can actually start helping a patient feel some relief mind, body and spirit.
The benefits that you can get from massage therapy, whether in remission or just diagnosed, may surprise you if you’re not already hooked. The bottom line is improving your quality of life, so why not soak up all the benefits this therapy has to offer? Here are just a few of the upsides to seeing a massage therapist every now and then.
Emotional Well-Being
Massage therapy isn’t just about feeling good physically, it’s about relieving stress and pent up emotions that cause anxiety or clouded judgement. Going through cancer or mesothelioma is difficult and can lead to a lot of built up frustration if you’re not careful. Massage therapy is a good way to get rid of a lot of that residual anger, sadness and distress.
Time to Yourself
Part of the appeal of massage therapy is just taking some time to yourself. Between doctor’s appointments and dealing with family, it can be hard to find time to get your thoughts together.
Strengthened Immune System
This one may surprise you, but the improved moods and physical well being of someone who enjoys massage therapy can actually lead to an improved immune system. So by getting a massage now and then, you are actually less likely to succumb to illness. That means fewer colds just because you took the time to get a massage.
There are many benefits to massage therapy and these are just three of the biggest ones. You will be much better off in a physical, mental, and emotional capacity by simply allowing yourself a massage now and then. It may not seem like much, but a massage therapy session really can make all of the difference in the world in your fight against cancer.
- Research & article by Melanie L Bowen
People with cancer should avoid very deep massage – gentle is safer. It is important to consult your doctor to find a therapy that will work best for you and your treatment.
